Generals’ field turns patriotic for Independence Day game

According to an article in the Jackson Sun by Brandon Shields, Eric Taylor, head groundskeeper for The Ballpark at Jackson (TN), says groundskeepers do try to one-up one another in field preparation, as well as make sure their playing surfaces are high quality. “Everybody who does groundskeeping for professional or college sports teams, we all try to do our best, but we also try to one-up each other and raise the bar in what we try to accomplish on our fields,” Taylor said. Taylor and his crew’s efforts to raise the bar in Jackson was a memorable one for those present for the Generals’ recent series-opener against the Tennessee Smokies, which was also Independence Day.

“I started thinking last August about what I wanted to do, and started really planning it out in January — and for the most part, we accomplished what I wanted to,” Taylor said.
