Interview with UK’s head of sports grounds safety

From Katie McIntyre’s Sports Venue Business, see this video interview with Darren Whitehouse, Director of Sport and International Projects at the Sports Ground Safety Authority in the UK, discussing the regulatory body’s role in ensuring safe sports grounds.

Darren touches on the vital work of the SGSA over the past 30 years, including the provision of licensing to all 92 league clubs across England and Wales, as well as to Wembley Stadium and Principality Stadium, in addition to regulatory oversight of local authorities.

He also highlights how the SGSA works around the world, providing consultancy, advisory and training services to sports grounds and local authorities, all with the aim of making sports grounds and stadia safer places.

The SGSA is also perhaps best known as the entity behind the “Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds” (or the Green Guide for short); which has become the industry’s bible when it comes to the provision of safety at sports grounds. This video interview was filmed on site at Johan Cruijff ArenA during the World Stadium Congress back in May.
