"It was our idea to use the artificial turf fields for practice and some games, especially for the younger players, and have the older teams play on the grass fields," said Barnes. "But the culture has become that the artificial turf fields are the best for games whereas traditionalists would say grass surfaces are better. It's the same everywhere and whether we swing back sometime or not, I don't know."
The man who has been taking care of the grass for the Brewers for more than 30 years has died. Gary VandenBerg, director of grounds at Miller Park, passed away last week.
